November 3, 2008, London: Amazon.co.uk can reveal that Dawn French’s ‘Dear Fatty’ has emerged as one of the frontrunners to be the nation’s bestselling Christmas gift alongside the likes of Mamma Mia! and Wii Fit with vast numbers of customers listing the item as a product they want to receive this Christmas.

Thousands of Amazon shoppers have placed the Dawn French book on their Amazon.co.uk Wishlist – a personalised list of all the things that customers would love to own from the Amazon.co.uk website. Friends and family are able to look at the list and use it to purchase the perfect present.

Items heading up the Amazon.co.uk ‘most wished for’ charts are as follows:

Dear Fatty – Dawn French BOOKS Mamma Mia! DVD Only by the Night – The Kings of Leon MUSIC Wii Fit VIDEO GAMES Rubik’s Cube TOYS Apple iPod Classic 120 Gb ELECTRONICS GHD IV Styler Hair Straightener HEALTH AND BEAUTY Philips Imageo LED Rechargable Candlelights HOME AND GARDEN Powerball Pro SPORTS AND LEISURE The Dark Knight BLU-RAY

‘These products are the ones that the British public are telling their friends and family they want to be given for Christmas,’ said Brian McBride, Amazon’s UK Managing Director. ‘You can expect these items to be selling by the bucket load over the festive period.’

‘It was a really big Christmas for DVD last year and we could see that repeated again in 2008 with both Mamma Mia! and The Dark Knight already attracting substantial pre-orders, weeks before they are available on general release. And the battle to be the festive books bestseller looks set to go to the wire with Dawn French leading the way from big releases by the likes of Jamie Oliver, JK Rowling, Nigella Lawson and Paul O’Grady.’

‘We recently lowered our Free Super Saver Delivery threshold to just £5 in time for Christmas shopping - that means that over 90% of products sold by Amazon will now be available for free delivery,’ continued Brian McBride.

Amazon.co.uk has announced its ‘most wished for’ list today as part of the launch of its Christmas Store. The store features the best deals on Amazon.co.uk, items to make Christmas Day extra special, and Editor’s Picks, the items that our store teams recommend as the gifts to be buying this festive season.
