Cyber Monday 2013, Monday 2nd December, becomes the biggest day ever on Amazon.co.uk with more than 4.1 million items ordered in one day

03/12/2013
  • Peak time for shopping was 9.22pm
  • Around 47 items ordered per second

Luxembourg, 3rd December 2013 – Cyber Monday 2013 (2nd December), was the busiest day ever for sales on Amazon.co.uk.

More than 4.1 million items were ordered at a rate of around 47 items per second with sales peaking at 9.22pm.

The number of orders placed on Monday 2nd December beat the all-time sales record set just four days ago on Black Friday, 29th November 2013, when more than 4 million items were ordered.

“Cyber Monday has continued to grow every year with more people looking online to find and buy the perfect Christmas gifts,” commented Xavier Garambois, Vice President of EU Retail at Amazon.

“Black Friday really captured the imagination of customers as shown by the fact that we had our busiest day to date and reached one-day sales of over 4 million items for the very first time in our history,” commented Christopher North, Managing Director of Amazon.co.uk Ltd. “Customers were then out in force again yesterday, shopping for Christmas presents and generating our busiest day of sales ever.”

Some of the bestselling items on 2nd December were the Kindle family of devices, including the All-New Kindle Fire HDX 7” which was offered at £30 off on Cyber Monday only.

Last week also saw more than one million items of clothing and shoes ordered from Amazon.co.uk, making it the biggest week for fashion sales to date on the website.

Last Cyber Monday (3rd December 2012), Amazon.co.uk saw more than 3.5 million items ordered on the site, at a rate of around 41 items per second. That meant that a delivery lorry packed with Cyber Monday orders left one of Amazon’s eight UK fulfilment centres every two minutes and 10 seconds.

Amazon.co.uk now offers over 100 million items across categories including Kindle, Apps, Books, Music, MP3, DVD, Software, PC & Video Games, Electronics, Toys, Home & Garden, Grocery, Musical Instruments & DJ, Sports & Leisure, Jewellery & Watches, Health & Beauty, Baby, Shoes, DIY & Tools, Car & Motorbike, Pet Supplies and Clothing. Javari.co.uk, the dedicated shoe and handbag website, is also a part of Amazon.

There is still plenty of time for customers to order from Amazon.co.uk in time for Christmas. The last Amazon.co.uk order dates for Christmas delivery are as follows:

  • By 9:30am on 24th December, using Same Day delivery
  • By 11am on 23rd December for Prime members (or One Day Delivery)
  • By midnight on 20th December for First Class delivery
  • By midnight on 18th December for UK Free Super Saver delivery
