Amazon.co.uk is the exclusive online seller of the world's most expensive and heaviest book this Christmas

13/12/1999

From Helmut Newton, the world famous fashion photographer, comes SUMO - the ultimate coffee table book and luxury Christmas present for the person who has got everything. Amazon.co.uk, the UK's leading online store, will be the only retailer to sell this rare gift online and guarantee delivery to your door in time for Christmas.

Weighing an obese 66 pounds and with a price tag of #1000, the book is the biggest, most expensive book published in the 20th century. It is so heavy that it comes complete with its own coffee table - specially created by designer Philippe Starck.

The book features hundreds of rarely or never-before published images by the controversial and influential photographer, whose work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Each book has been hand bound, numbered and signed by the artist. Brad Pitt has already ordered three of the books as presents this Christmas and Marco Pierre White has just got his order in.

In an exclusive arrangement, Amazon.co.uk has teamed up with art reference books publisher, Taschen to sell 15 copies of SUMO through its online store by Christmas.

Colleen Byrum, Managing Director of Amazon.co.uk commented 'We are delighted to be the only online store to sell this amazing book for Christmas. Due to the immense weight of the book, ordering it online is the perfect method of purchase for the customer. We expect to have a huge amount of interest in this book despite its heavy price tag!'
