Amazon Begins Recruiting for Almost 1,000 Permanent and Temporary Employees at the New Dunfermline Fulfilment Centre

19/09/2011

Employees to benefit from new public transport services at centre on ‘Amazon Way’

Slough – 19 September 2011: Amazon has begun recruiting for almost 1,000 permanent and temporary employees at its new 1 million square foot Dunfermline fulfilment centre which is due to open in the coming months.

Hundreds of temporary fulfilment centre Associate roles are available and Amazon is also recruiting for positions across many different areas including Operations, IT, HR, and Engineering.

"We recently recruited our first group of new employees for the Dunfermline fulfilment centre and they have joined the Associates transferring from our Glenrothes site," said Sandy Davidson, General Manager of the Dunfermline fulfilment centre. "We are now delighted to make almost 1,000 further roles available and look forward to these new employees joining our current, talented local workforce who will play an integral role in fulfilling customer orders all over the world in the run up to Christmas, into 2012 and beyond."

750 permanent jobs are to be created at the Dunfermline centre over time, along with a further 1,500 temporary jobs during peak periods.

Anyone interested in a permanent role should visit www.amazon.co.uk/careers. Temporary roles will be listed on the Opportunities Fife website: www.opportunitiesfife.org and are also available at any of the following local recruitment agencies: Blue Arrow, Brightwork Ltd, Brook Street, Industrious People, Transline-Resource and Job Centre Plus.

To accommodate employees at the centre, Stagecoach has introduced two new services - 72A and 72C. With services every half hour during the day and hourly in the evening, the new routes connect the Amazon fulfilment centre with Dunfermline town centre, Townhill, Queen Margaret Hospital, Duloch Park and Abbeyview.

"We are delighted to extend our network of fast, reliable services by introducing these new routes and making it easy for staff at Amazon to travel to work whether they are coming from Dunfermline or beyond," said Sarah Longair, Operations Director, Stagecoach in Fife.

"This is excellent news for Amazon and their employees as they will have a half hourly service passing the door of the new centre during the day, in both directions, and hourly in the evening to accommodate shift patterns," said Councillor Tony Martin, chair of Enterprise, Environment & Transportation Committee. "This highlights the success of the partnership working we have in Fife. It's important that businesses like Amazon, who have made such a massive investment in the region and are recruiting a large workforce, have the support of Fife Council and its partners to make sure that their employees can access the site by sustainable transport in time for their shifts."

To view the new timetables, please visit www.stagecoachbus.com or your nearest travel shop.

It has also been announced that the supply road leading from Sandpiper Drive to the new Amazon fulfilment centre has been given the name 'Amazon Way'.

Cllr. Joe Rosiejak, Chair of City of Dunfermline Area Committee, said "Following the massive development and investment that Amazon has put into their relocation within Fife, local members have decided that it is a fitting acknowledgement."
